IRS Announces Honda Hybrid Tax Credit Phase-Out |
|
Credit Drops 50% on January 1, 2008
Honda Motor Company announced recently that sales of their
qualified hybrid vehicles had reached a benchmark 60,000
vehicles by 30 September 2007, thus triggering a reduction
in the allowable tax credit. Vehicles purchased prior to
year's end still qualify for the full tax credit. Credits
range from $1300 on a new Accord Hybrid to $2100 on the
Civic Hybrid CVT. These credits drop 50 percent for the
period January through June, 2008, and to 25 percent July
through December, 2008.

V2G to use Ford Escape PHEVs in Eight States
Xcel Energy will put six Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)
on the road prior to the end of 2007 in a practical,
proof-of-concept exercise. The goal is to show how
consumers can use the vehicles to lower greehouse gases,
shore up the electricity grid reliability and prove the PHEV
a viable alternative to carbon-emitting automobiles. First,
the Escapes must be converted to plug-in. This consists of
replacing the Ford SUV's nickel-metal hydride batteries with
lithium-ion phosphate battery packs. Then a charging module
is added to allow plugging into 120 volt home current for
battery charging. A V2Green Connectivity Module allows the
Escape to integrate with the electrical grid. The six-month
test is a joint effort among Xcel Energy, Hybrids Plus of
Boulder, CO, V2Green of Seattle and the NREL in Golden, CO.

End-of-Year Survey

Polling Coalitions for Fossil Fuel Offsets
Every year Clean Cities Coalitions are asked to gather data
from their regions for the Department of Energy. DOE
wants to know how many gallons of gasoline and diesel were
displaced by ethanol, biodiesel and compressed natural gas.
They want to know how many hybrid vehicles were sold and
other energy-related matters. Please be patient if we ask
you to make a critical phone call to a city official, county
commissioner or fleet manager where we are having difficulty
gathering data. Please keep us in mind as you make your own
year-end tallies. And...thanks in advance for your
help!

Please help get the word out on the scholarships--maybe
even apply yourself! Best wishes to you and your families
for a happy holiday season!
Sincerely,
Sandy Shuptrine
